CCSD celebrates school breakfast
National School Breakfast Week is March 5-9
LAS VEGAS – Clark County School District
schools and the Central Kitchen will celebrate
breakfast, one of the most important meals of
the day, during National School Breakfast Week,
March 5-9. School cafeterias serve over 40,000
breakfasts to CCSD students each morning.
To celebrate this national week, the district’s
Food Service Department will host the 12th Annual
Eat Breakfast with Teachers Day on Thursday,
March 8. Elementary school teachers and aides
are invited to enjoy a complementary breakfast
with their students to celebrate NSBW.
Breakfast is available each morning in all
CCSD schools. This year 13 schools serve breakfast
to all students in their classrooms each morning.
Breakfast items include milk, juice, a variety
of baked goods and hot entrees. Prices for a
complete breakfast are 80 cents in elementary
schools and $1 in middle schools and high schools.
Ala carte breakfast items are available for
25 cents to $1.25. Students who qualify for
free or reduced priced lunches are also eligible
for breakfast each morning at either no charge
or the reduced charge of 30 cents.
Some fun CCSD Food Service Breakfast facts:
• Parents now have the option of prepaying
for breakfast or lunch online at www.schoolpassport.com.
• More than 20 million 4 oz containers
of juice will be served this year.
• Central Kitchen produces 18,000 cinnamon
rolls each day.
• Central Kitchen ships 15,000 french
toast sticks, 10,000 breakfast pizzas and 11,000
sausage and cheese biscuits to CCSD schools
each week.

"The National School
Breakfast week is a means to recognize
the need to feed our kids and their growing
minds. The school breakfast program feed
many young children within our district
to prepare them for the daily activities
of learning and exercise. Various studies
have found that breakfast is the most
important meal of the day to energize
and activate the human body and mind.
"I had the opportunity
to be invited to both Hayden and Kitty
Ward ES for this event. The picture accompanying
this article was taken at Hayden ES where
Dr. Caplan and her staff provided me with
breakfast goodies. These included: sweet
rolls, apple and orange slices, yogurt,
french toast, and drinks. The drinks included
water, milk, chocolate milk, and strawberry
milk. I was the first time that I tried
strawberry milk and I can tell you that
it is yeeky. The breakfast was good and,
as you can see, so was the service." |
