Renovations at Bonanza High School

Eighteen months ago, a parent advisory group prepared a list and sent it to the Facilities Division regarding the building conditions at Bonanza High School. It was sent just prior to the establishment of the Requirements office.

The parents feared that no one was aware of the conditions at the site.

Once the Requirement Services office was up and running, the Facility Service Representative assigned to Bonanza took the lead and had several meetings with parents and school administrators. Together, a plan of action was devised.Through diligent work, eighteen months later, fifty of the eighty-three projects started have been completed. Seven projects have been rolled into an upcoming plumbing rehabilitiation and three more are in progress.

A minor setback occurred during theater construction when a water line was ruptured and severe flooding occurred. The Facility Service Representative was on site before school began and immediately arranged for clean-up and repairs. The school administration was very pleased with the care and attention they recieved from the Requirements office.

Problem
Rationale
Solution
Quad area concrete is badly cracked. The area is dangerous to walk on. After it rains, puddles form. The steps are not marked with safety tape or paint and are slippery. The quad area was replaced with new cement and redesigned. Steps are now marked for safety.
Tile and stalls in older restrooms are old and not to code. The stalls are not graffitti-proof. Tile was taken out and resued in a previous rehab project. Stalls and floors were replaced to conform to current code standards.
Damage to 700 hallway and ceiling. The 700 hallway and ceiling have been damaged over time from construction and rehabilitation. Ceiling cracks and depressions have been repaired.
Fence around baseball field is in need of replacement. Fence is old and falling down, creating a safety factor. Fencing and poles have been replaced.
The exterior lights on the front, south and west sides of the building are not working or are non-existant. This is a major safety factor. Additional lighting added and existing fixtures were upgraded.
